Vermont Chairlift Accidents
The ski industry has protected the Vermont ski industry in many ways (see our blog of May 16, 2016 at our blog page). However, the same unfair protections for the industry and their insurance companies are not available to them in accidents involving chairlifts. Chairlift accidents usually involve a malfunction of the chairlift of the chair’s connection to the lift but all sorts of problems do occur. Liberty Mutual, 126 F.3d (2nd Cir. 1997) and an award of $1.1 million in Vermont Superior Court for a man who was struck by a truck while riding his motorcycle in Northfield, Vermont (see Brown v. Roadway Express, 169 Vt. 633 (Vt. 1999). Agreements reached by pre-trial settlement also include results in excess of one million dollars.
